Markings:
The panel is cradled, flat and stable. The paint surface is relatively clean with a discoloured varnish. There are scattered tiny losses along the extremity of the margins, as well as some discoloured retouchings visible in the sky. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the quite extensive retouching in the sky and horizon, which appears in two campaigns - older retouchings comprising horizontal bands and concentrated patches notably on the left; and more recent retouchings to a few horizontal bands in the sky on the right, the largest 2 x 20cm. There are small spots of older retouching scattered in the main composition, but it is difficult to discern more underneath the milky varnish. In overall fairly good condition and will clean well.
